India handed debuts to two young players in the Rajkot Test match against England. The Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were handed Test caps for the Indian Test team. While the opening day of the first Test belonged to Sarfaraz Khan and his tremendous attacking half-century, Dhruv Jurel’s cap ceremony was equally special.
Veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik presented the cap to Jurel on Thursday, 15 February and lauded the batter for undertaking a tough journey since his childhood. Karthik detailed Jurel’s journey during the cap ceremony and told him that a lot of people would be very happy to watch him play his first Test match.
“Coming from Agra, moving to Noida at a very young age, your mother being with you all the tough things that must have happened in the journey, there must have been so many people through that journey who would have really helped you. I am sure all of them would be watching today,” Dinesh Karthik said during the cap presentation ceremony.

“You must have played a lot of matches in different colours, mainly blue, but there is something divine and pure about wearing the whites and representing India in Test cricket. It is the toughest format of the game, it is relentless but there is tremendous satisfaction that comes when you do well in this format,” Karthik concluded.
Jurel himself took to Instagram after the day’s play in Rajkot and said that he had “imagined, manifested and rehearsed” this moment.
“Imagined, manifested and rehearsed this day so many times ever since I first picked up the bat. My dream came true,” Jurel wrote in his Instagram post.
The wicketkeeper did not get a chance to bat on Thursday, 15 February but practiced in the ground after the day’s played ended. Jurel will be raring to go out when his chance comes especially after Sarfaraz’s tremendous debut in the Test arena on Day 1 of the Test match vs England.
