England fast bowler Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers in England’s first innings at Rajkot. Playing in the 3rd Test match, Wood bowled relentless spells on both Day 1 and Day 2 of the third Test match and picked up four wickets. Wood’s bouncers put the Indian batters in trouble. Wood’s wicket of Rohit Sharma was crucial on Day 1 of the Test match, which hurt India’s momentum.

Speaking in the press conference at the end of Day 2 of the third Test, Wood joked that India captain Rohit Sharma’s wicket was an enjoyable one, as the batter was trying to hit him to Ranchi.

“The two at the top were really important to start the innings off. I was really happy with the Rohit one. He tried to hit it back to Ranchi,” Wood said at the press conference.

Sharma scored 131 runs off 196 balls and rescued India from a top-order failure alongside Ravindra Jadeja. The batter hit 14 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. This was an important century for the India captain who had stayed relatively quiet till now in the Test series. Sharma’s innings, Ravindra Jadeja’s century and important contributions from debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel took India’s score to 445 runs on Day 2 of the Test match. However, India were not able to keep a choke-hold on the opposition in the latter part of the day.

England dominated the final two sessions on Day 2, adding 207 runs in just 35 overs. Wood lauded Ben Duckett for his century and said that the left-hander did not allow India to settle in their plans.

“Amazing. As a bowler class to watch after all of that toil. Sometimes it looked like India weren’t sure with their fields. In the nets we are trying to get him to leave one ball,” Wood said.

England will start Day 3 trailing India by 238 runs. Ben Duckett and Joe Root are currently at the crease and would hope to continue their momentum. England have
