Rohit Sharma, leading the Indian side on Thursday, achieved another milestone by becoming only the fifth Indian captain to score 5000 international runs while leading the team across formats.
With over 19,000 runs already under his belt across all three formats, Rohit now boasts 5013 runs from 122 matches as captain. This landmark was reached during his innings against England in the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final. Joining the elite club of Indian captains with over 5000 runs, Rohit stands alongside cricketing legends such as Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sourav Ganguly. Virat Kohli, who tops the chart, has amassed 12,883 runs from 213 matches as captain, in addition to another 13,926 runs from matches where he wasn’t leading, totaling a staggering 26,808 runs across formats.

MS Dhoni, renowned for leading India to three ICC titles, is the only other Indian skipper to have crossed the five-digit run mark in his captaincy tenure. He also holds the record for the most games captained for India. Rohit has hit three half-centuries, including a blazing 92 against Australia in the Super-8 stage, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
