SportsWatch: Virat Kohli video calls wife Anushka Sharma to show Barbados hurricane

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli was recently seen video calling his wife, Anushka Sharma, showing her the turbulent weather in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Kohli, who is currently stranded with the Indian cricket team in Barbados following their victory in the ICC T20 World Cup, used the opportunity to give his wife a firsthand look at the powerful hurricane. The Indian team, stranded in Bridgetown, Barbados since their World Cup triumph on June 29, is set to depart the Caribbean island on Tuesday night. Notably, the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, to break their 11-year-old title jinx in the ICC tourneys.

Kohli, expressing his gratitude and joy, had also penned a heartfelt note to his wife Anushka Sharma after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory. This victory was a significant milestone for the team and their supporters. Kohli was one of the architects of India’s triumph as he played a marvelous knock of 76 (59) after India were left reeling at 34/3 in the powerplay. After the early fall of wickets, Kohli guided India to a good total of 176/7 which proved to be enough as South Africa could only reach 169/8 in their 20 overs, handing India a seven-run win.

As previously reported by India Today, the team will fly directly to New Delhi, where they are expected to meet with the Prime Minister. However, members of the squad, support staff, and their families have been stranded on the island for the past two days due to flight cancellations caused by Hurricane Beryl, which hit the region on Monday with high intensity.

As a precautionary measure, the entire island was shut down for two days, forcing the players to remain confined to their hotel. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) managers have been attempting to arrange a private jet or charter flight to transport the players home but have faced obstacles due to the closure of the airport. As per the latest reports, the Indian team is now set to leave Barbados on Tuesday at 6 pm local time, which will be approximately 3:30 am on Wednesday in Indian Standard Time (IST). The team is expected to land in Delhi by 7:45 pm on July 3, Wednesday.
